ELD Compliance Guide for Motor Carriers

Many drivers required to maintain records of duty status must use an FMCSA-compliant electronic logging device unless an applicable exception applies. Official list of registered devices: https://eld.fmcsa.dot.gov/List

  1. Determine whether an ELD is required. Review the operation and applicable exceptions before selecting or relying on an ELD exemption.
  2. Select a compliant device. Use an ELD listed by FMCSA as required for applicable operations.
  3. Configure the carrier account. Set up carrier and driver information correctly in the ELD system.
  4. Train drivers. Train drivers on log certification, edits, malfunctions, inspection requests, and required documents.
  5. Audit the logs. Review logs regularly for violations, unassigned driving, edits, and recurring problems.
