FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse Compliance Guide

Employers of drivers subject to the FMCSA drug and alcohol testing requirements have specific Clearinghouse registration, query, consent, reporting, and recordkeeping responsibilities. Official portal: https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov

  1. Register the employer. Create and maintain the appropriate employer account in the FMCSA Clearinghouse.
  2. Register drivers when applicable. Ensure drivers understand their Clearinghouse responsibilities and complete required actions.
  3. Perform pre-employment queries. Complete required queries before employing a driver in a safety-sensitive position.
  4. Perform annual queries. Complete required annual queries for applicable current drivers.
  5. Maintain records. Keep evidence of required queries, consents, reports, and other Clearinghouse records.
